Drysdale Motorcycle Co. Pty Ltd ( DMCo ) was founded by Ian Drysdale in the mid 1990s as a “spin-off” from his original engineering business Ausdale Engineering, and from DRYVTECH, the company name that adorns Ian’s futuristic “2X2X2 EXPERIMENTAL” 2 wheel drive, 2 wheel steer, hydraulic drive prototype desert racing bike.
In the late 1990s DMCo’s focus shifted to the blossoming Chinese motorcycle industry and a good working relationship was formed with several Chinese companies, resulting in the design and prototyping of many motorcycle and ATV engines.
DMCo continues to work in China, as well India, America and Australia – on engine / vehicle projects as diverse as motorcycles, ATV’s, UTV’s, fixed wing aircraft, helicopters and even lawn mowers.
DMCo prides itself in engine and vehicle designs that are practical and easy to manufacture, but designs that still have an “edginess” about them, designs that stand out from the crowd.
Ian Drysdale was raised on a dairy farm in Western Victoria, a southern state in Australia. He attributes much of his fundamental design philosophy to his upbringing on the farm, where he and his father had to repair broken machinery, or more often, perform major modifications to it so that it would stand up to the harsh Australian conditions.
Although accepted into Melbourne University to study engineering, Ian took up a “Fitting & turning / toolmaking” apprenticeship at a gear cutting company, only returning to study engineering ( at Monash University ) as a mature age student, after first completing qualifications in drafting, toolmaking, hydraulics and welding at RMIT.
Ian is a very keen motorcycle racer - having competed in MX, enduro, flat track, desert racing and even some road racing – he continues to compete at club and national level, with his most recent national level event being the 2012 Australasian Safari.
Ian is also loves flying and has almost completed a commercial helicopter pilot’s licence, he considers helicopters to be “motorcycles of the sky”.
